File 8-007 is large, about 240 Mp. It contains generations of genealogical and biomedical data on dozens of families. The oldest piece of information in the file is dated 1834. The file is structured in an elaborate data base, with each family’s records occupying one block of data. All the blocks contain a final entry stating “Surveillance Terminated” and listing a date ranging from 14 months to 40 years ago. Each family/data block seems to be focused on a single individual, or closely related members of a group.
Examining the data in more detail reveals a pattern – all surveillance and monitoring stops at the point where a medical report indicates a serious illness or when the subjects in question reach their late thirties/early fourties.
A detailed search of the file structure reveals that one data block has been deleted. Given where it fell in the file, it was part of a regional subset for the Midwest. Some reconstruction based on undeleted flags and pointers indicate the primary focus of the block to be a female in her late 20s. Unlike the others in the file, there is no indication this block was ever closed out.
